Criss Angel Mindfreak

I tried to see a Criss Angel show this week. Mindfreak was my favorite show growing up. We got tickets, we were in the theater, and the show started and everything, but I couldn't take it.

His first trick was to swallow razor blades. I'm sure it was an illusion, but I can't figure out how he did it and I started feeling sick. I was sitting down but felt my heart racing and I thought I was going to throw up. I was feeling hot and dizzy like I needed to lie down. I tried closing my eyes but hearing the crowd scream and gasp as he kept going made the feeling get worse.

Alice helped me climb over a barrier to get out so we wouldn't have to go through the crowd to the door.

I'm really disappointed. I just wanted to see him do magic. I know extreme body stuff has always been part of his brand, but I didn't expect him to start right off the bat with visceral horror. If he ever does a "lite" version of his show I would still absolutely love to go.

We literally left less than 5 minutes into the show.

When we left so quickly security rushed up and asked us a bunch of questions but eventually we made it to a bench outside to sit down. I felt better after sitting and drinking some water.

Wow, how I made it this far without noticing it's spelled "Criss" is a mindfreak in itself.

Are you sure this response was because of the trick? I can't really imagine it.

I am very squeamish to realistic bodily horror. On TV it doesn't bother me because I know it isn't real, but the thought of a real razor blade inside the stomach of a real human standing in front of me was too much. Houdini died due to a trick gone wrong.

Like I said im sure it is an illusion but in the moment I was panicking like, "what if it isn't?" What if this sicko is so disturbed he is actually swallowing razors for fame and fourtune? What if it goes wrong this time? He put a camera in his mouth to show he wasn't hiding them under his tongue or in his cheek.

Triggered my vasovagal syncope and I was in flight mode.

Did you get refunded for the original?  Or did they give you tickets to future shows or what?

How did you ever handle being around needles then?

I would still see it like it being "on TV" if it's not someone like... sitting across the table from me doing it or something.

Yeah in like 1926, almost 100 years ago, it's a different age now with different expectations and tools at their disposal.

At the very least I seem to have rationalized it that way.

I always had trouble relating with people who.enjoy gpre TV shows. I've watched a few of the Mindfreak shows and I just turned them off when he was impaling his skin with hooks or whatever, and never watched the shows again. Same with saw and other gore movies, they just don't appeal to me.

Having said that, it could be that you ate something bad before the show and felt sick because of that, and that feeling was amplified by all that garbage show. I've felt like that in crowded places occasionally.

Get your heart checked, frightened of this thing that I've become.
