The image it conjures for them makes them squick, like as if a texture or direct feeling is embedded into the thought. It's like licking a finger and poking their brain, like a mental Wet Willie. 

It might have to do with what languages were learned when young, I know I don't really respond like that to Spanish words anyway. 

None of these words are "unsettling" other than inappropriate innuendo, sometimes.  They can actually be fun, because they do bother some people and you can tease them with it.

I think the only words I find unsettling are Nikocado Avocado, in that order.

"necessary"  is the most unsettling word that comes to mind for me. I hate anything being necessary, I think it sounds stupid with my accent when i say it and despite how much it annoys me i have to think about spelling it every time i write or type it.
