You guys seen the Roiland texts? There's more including a weird convo he wrote as Morty, and some that people posted onto Reddit. I don't know how valid stuff in a Reddit thread is going to be. Hell, maybe the second image is even from it.
^ That one actually becomes funny to me in the context of who he sent it to.
This article asks if there were some red flags earlier that should have been noticed:
Folks were also shocked to learn that the premise of Rick and Morty was originally contrived from a cartoon short called “Doc and Mharti.”
In Roiland’s original sketch, Rick repeatedly forces Morty (“Mharti”), a young boy, to perform fellatio. These acts are shown in graphic detail. The short centers entirely around attempting to make comedy out of child sexual assault. The Doc and Mharti characters Roiland created and voice acted for these sketches were then developed into the duo known as Rick and Morty.
Adult Swim VP Mike Lazzo apparently never saw the “Doc and Mharti” shorts before helping launch the first season of Rick and Morty, as apparently Roiland wanted to avoid showing the abusive content to producers on the show. But once the show’s popularity solidified, Roiland started sneaking in sly allusions to the CSA jokes from the original sketch.
Combined with concerns about Roiland’s unaddressed behaviors and the explicit child sexual violence in origins of Rick and Morty, this series of revelations caught fire across the NFT community. Many drew a hard line against Art Gobblers, citing Roiland's involvement and the project’s bizarrely offensive marketing tactics.
Seemingly in response to Art Gobblers, David Horvath, creator of Bossy Bear, wrote: “Zero tolerance for pedo anything, will not pass. End of line. Web3 is on pause until that shit leaves.”
Roiland has a decent sense of humor. He made a mega show that had what I thought were some good jokes in it, even though I was mostly indifferent to the work. In retrospect, I am seeing a cluster of primings in the show, both moral and sexual, part of whatever strain of liberalism out there that basically wants an atheist fuckhouse. When you think of it, it's a show that is known to have a younger audience, and is also selling these baked-in concepts about sex. Or even what is funny around sex, like jokes about child molestation. A molestation joke can be funny, but I think the bar is kind of high for that, because it needs to not just come across as "sexual conduct with kids is funny." I think that stuff is gross and also reflective of the writer...
Lots of rapey shit going on lately (or maybe there are more eyes on conduct now?). Andrew Callaghan got hit too, though the impression I got from that case sounded like he liked getting head and didn't do anything super wrong for a young man. In the streaming world, the rape game has been vicious for the last year or so? Seen something like 2 weeks ago about a drunk girl getting raped in her ass till it bled while at a party at a streamer's house, then when she came to fully afterward and asked the guy why he did it he was like "you were in my bed."
