No, I am specifically going on about your perception of intelligence.
You recognize roughly how sharp they are, what their craft or focus is, practical things, but once it gets personal for you your bias becomes as if another form of intelligence to gauge from them, as if your understanding of their EQ is purely over how much you liked the talk and how much they were willing to accommodate for your speech patterns.
The crowd you call smart are dismissive types that either felt no need to dig into you like Alice or otherwise find more benefit in acting on the most basic of etiquette for favor.

We weren't besties, while she and I had good conversations I'd say we were the upper tier of acquaintanceship. There was no divulging of personal secrets or anything to make for deeper connections, a lot of it was surface level appraisal and good vibes.

I never believed Cricket and I were friendly, only that she was not actively trying to fuck me over.
