38 x 100 =3800

Divide in half  = 38 x 50  =1900

plus 38

=1938

Where do you get 61 out of  51 x 38?

Here's a little smthg I learned in the third grade, that I was absolutely floored is not being taught anymore.

How to estimate to check your work.

50 is close to 51 and 38 is close to 40.

50 x40 =2000

So 1938 is close enough that it's safe to assume there are no glaring mistakes.
