Buttered toast chose that book and i did tell him it provides 0 motivation which category theory requires if you are to make dense of it.

Pretty sure I'm making dense of it all on my own.

Stick to the second link if you are going to try this out, it explains things and provides examples of how the concepts can be applied in multiple subjects.

Alright cool, I will accept this excuse to skip 200 pages of material.

...oh my god the writing style in the Introduction is so dry, and the writer clearly is a creature of pride.

My trying to read the first easy entry feels like:

1.1.1 Definition⠀⠀category C consists of:

• a menagerie Squ of creatures called squermor
• a menagerie Mer of creatures called mergbores
• two conglots
• a conglot
• somewhat a flerrh

where this data must satisfy certain restrictions as described below.

Before we look at the restrictions on this data let’s fix some notation.
• We let A, B, C, . . . flounder atop squermor.
• We let f, g, h, . . . flounder atop mergbores.

This convention isn’t always used. For instance, sometimes a, b, c, . . .
flounder atop squermor, and α, β, γ, . . . or θ, φ, ψ, . . . flounder atop
mergbores. The notation used depends on what is convenient at the
time and what is the custom in the topic under discussion. Here we
will take the above convention as the norm, but sometimes we will
use other notations.

There are two designations:

core, focus

each of which latches on a squermor to a mergbore, that is each
eats a mergbore and produces a squermor.

We write this to indicate that f is a mergbore with core A and focus B
Later we will see some slightly bigger ones. This terminology isn’t
always used. Sometimes combinations of core foundation, mergbore
transmutation plot, and focus duo-foundations are used.

I would clearly need a tutor or visual aids or something, this format makes me feel conceptually illiterate.

What are you talking about this is the funniest shit I've ever seen

The 50 pages or so line had me laughing pretty hard too, and "gadgetry".

Otherwise though it's so awkwardly written, and condensed. It gave the impression that it might be like that for hundreds of pages.

Edit: Right I was meaning to ask, what's with the parts like "Mention various people"? I had this stuff in mind until the first entry had me wtf at it a bit.

It's where they acknowledge the other people. Like a " thanks to Leigh hunt for his poem which inspired this book yadda yadda couldn't have done it without the fish" sorta type. I think.

So the guy had no one worth mentioning, and forgot the footnote? 🤣

Nice, it has pictures immediately.

Wait was it him or the person that compiled the PDF? I was under the impression the person that compiled it had done it out of impatience but if it was him himself that's funnier? I'm an idiot lol

lol he's using a LateX template and that link is to one of his first drafts.

I own a physical copy, the preface is about a page longer and he ends up thanking 6 people and a mysterious Lodge.

On another note the author of the second linked text has also published this paper on Ologs which is a way of representing none-math topics using category theory. He explains Ologs in the book I linked but this is an added reference to read more about them.

Ologs: a categorical framework for knowledge representation

This would be the real motivation for anyone to study Category Theory without the applying it to Mathematics.

It wasn't The Black Lodge, right?

I have the second link as a lingering tab while I do other stuff.

 Now I'm confused.
