I seen an interesting thread on Twitter:
Ion Râmaru said:Gypsies use the money they make from crime abroad to build massive flashy houses that they do not live in to signal their wealth. A truly fascinating glimpse into gypsy society. It's all about how it looks to everyone else: a pure status symbol. These houses are built illegally and are extremely low quality - lack insulation, use brick furnaces, and are way too large. Often entire floors do not even have divider walls. They are empty most of the time and the gypsy family live abroad or in a separate smaller houseNotice that there are as many windows, balconies, and towers as possible even if they're not needed at all. The architecture is bogus. The owner disregards the architect's advice when building the house for as many decorations as possible.Notice also that the yard is in very poor shape and it's often very small. Again, it's all about the house or the "palace". During winter, the livestock is sometimes brought into the house because they cannot be bothered to build stables for their animals. This is how the gypsy towns look like.
Everyone's probably already formulated their opinions on the Gypsies at this point. Opinions aside, I had no idea that areas full of these places was a meme. The architecture is pretty ridiculous, but it does make the area look cooler than a lot of spots in Cleveland.
