Ofc most of these issues can be mitigated via our own choices.
But, the plan is still Phd in Europe or Japan depending on what research program I require.
tbh, Japan would be my choice, but I'm a weeb. :)
It may be necessary for me.
The specific thesis I have in mind for my phd has to do with Anabelian Geometry, for whatever reason this area of mathematics and many of the results I am interested in have been developed in Japan. Some in isolation.
If my memory serves me, it's almost impossible to move to Japan.
They allow tourism and people can stay there if it's work related, but they really don't want to hand out citizenships.
Most I see make it work by offering to teach English, that can be done with pretty much any college degree, even an art one.
They also have some rehabilitation programs for abandoned homes, or Akiya, where you can fix up a home in order to claim residency on it and they in many cases are willing to allow foreign labor to participate. There are however many catches, like it not ensuring you citizenship in a way that'd allow for other perks and that you may be required to live in that same home for the rest of your life.
Here's a blog post about it: Want to Live in an Abandoned House in Japan? Here’s Why it’s Not Really ‘Free’.
I would be going as a Phd student which isn't that difficult of a process.
In the most ideal situation I would love to win the MEXT scholarship which givens you free school and a monthly allowance for the entire duration of your studies.
Peach and I will be wed by that time i imagine, so depending on their rules and regulations she will be allowed to come over with me a long with a pet based on that status alone. If not we would have to get her a work visa.
