I would not take the chance.

You think contaminants in your drinking water are bad?

Try living within 100 miles of a bombed out wreck with air quality worse than Pripyat.

If I lived within 100 miles of any city that could get nuked, now would be the time to consider a move.

Bizzarro World Ann Coulter mentioned blowing up Germany and London, btw.

If you're near Berlin, you might want to get gone.

Also, NY, DC, LA, and about 3 more? US cities might get hit.

I think they may attack Stuttgart since NATO headquarters are there.

Go to Japan.

Even if Germany doesn't get nuked, everything, especially the cost of heating your home and driving your car will be STUPIDLY expensive

What's your impression of Japan?

It is not as bad as it is portrayed. Maybe I am privileged, but I don't suffer too much. Meat is maybe 60% more expensive but people eat too much meat anyways. Also it is stupid to heat too much, just wear a sweater. They also did many interventions on a government level that kinda regulate the gas prices now.

The people look very friendly, it's very family oriented.

Rural areas are lovely, tho the big cities look a bit claustrophobic and expensive.

Apparently, the Japanese are intensely fat phobic.

I only tell young, cute people to move there  :)

Ofc most of these issues can be mitigated via our own choices.

But, the plan is still Phd in Europe or Japan depending on what research program I require.

tbh, Japan would be my choice, but I'm a weeb. :)

It may be necessary for me.

The specific thesis I have in mind for my phd has to do with Anabelian Geometry, for whatever reason this area of mathematics and many of the results I am interested in have been developed in Japan. Some in isolation.

If my memory serves me, it's almost impossible to move to Japan.

They allow tourism and people can stay there if it's work related, but they really don't want to hand out citizenships.

Most I see make it work by offering to teach English, that can be done with pretty much any college degree, even an art one.

They also have some rehabilitation programs for abandoned homes, or Akiya, where you can fix up a home in order to claim residency on it and they in many cases are willing to allow foreign labor to participate. There are however many catches, like it not ensuring you citizenship in a way that'd allow for other perks and that you may be required to live in that same home for the rest of your life.

Here's a blog post about it: Want to Live in an Abandoned House in Japan? Here’s Why it’s Not Really ‘Free’.

I would be going as a Phd student which isn't that difficult of a process.

In the most ideal situation I would love to win the MEXT scholarship which givens you free school and a monthly allowance for the entire duration of your studies.

Peach and I will be wed by that time i imagine, so depending on their rules and regulations she will be allowed to come over with me a long with a pet based on that status alone. If not we would have to get her a work visa.

They're wicked Xenophobic, and keep to themselves even within those constraints.

Considering their history with other cultures it makes sense, but it doesn't make it any easier.

If you feel like having people assault you with cameras every so often without your permission, yeah, it's great being cute and foreign in Japan.

They like what is familiar, and that is those like themselves. How they tend to see others outside of their tight knit group tends to be between novelty and disgust.

Any other time, I would love to visit Germany.

Especially at Xmas time. LOVE those German desserts  <3

It's worth paying a little more than we're used to.

But not right now.

These are some crazy uncertain times.

I NEVER thought the cold war would give me bad dreams again.

If anybody triesta put another wall through Berlin, you give 'em hell ok?

I'm glad the gvt got the heat situation sorted.
