Creativity tends to come from not having a more direct way of expressing an outlet, so to me it makes sense that people with disorders would gravitate towards it. You even see some of their best work when they are forced to work within additional constraints, and there's quite a bloody history between corporations and their media artists (Jhonen Vasquez, John Kricfalusi, etc).
If you go back further into history for painters and inventors, they were written as being pretty eccentric if not straight up disordered like Vah Gogh.
