Watch out you don't get sued for going around the hiring manager and e-mailing the candidate

Good point. I should probably use code language next time.

how horrible is the workplace presently ? and what if the boss develops a crush on her and is willing to change things for her because she is just soo beautiful and wonderful :p

Pretty sure he already did, but he's the type who is really insecure and wants to be a dominant alpha male in front of the female employees, which makes him infuriating to have around for the male employees, until he gets rejected by the female employee and turns into a Jack and Hyde type personality. He's not going to change. Think "Michael Scott" from the Office, but cunning and power-hungry.

Well, the workplace isnt so bad since he's not around right now. But when he does appear, it turns into a shithole.

lol soo what is your plan regarding this potential candidate then ?  seems like too much secrecy might make her feel insecure that you are maybe only trying to sleep with her or something,  and as you said hiring her on would give you a promotion soo maybe having her feel more comfortable and secure about the potential of being hired for this position in return would be ideal

soo it sounds like you are convinced that this potential candidate might not change your boss,  but what if she was your girlfriend and also teammate ?  isn't there like some sort of respect from your boss for that ?  maybe you should ask her to be your girlfriend that could probably solve soo many problems right  :p

The other day, I was weighting the pros and cons of being deceptive. I had a job applicant and she was pretty clueless about how to go about her job search. The big boss wanted to take advantage of that and tried to give this overtly rosy picture of our workplace, i.e., lied. He also tried to coax her into pre-signing the contract. I sort of went along with it, but then later on I felt ashamed.

So I emailed the applicant and told her how shitty the workplace actually is, and gave her some pointers for her search, including what to look out for. I felt good about it.

But I guess my question is, am I an idiot?

This is sort of coming at my own expense. Her entering the team would've pretty much secured my promotion.

I feel like I work in a shitty workplace and, while I could reshape the entire shithole in principle, I feel like my shitty boss will lord over everything and end up ultimately making the workplace into a shithole no matter how much effort I put into making it better. I think I'm starting to realize that my boss has put incentives out there for everyone to turn into a shitty person.

think of it this way for a moment

your boss needs a body to fill a certain position at work

of course s/he isn't going to paint a picture that the place sucks, you want the person to stay and fill the role

it's ok that you have some disagreement on how the shit is run, and you don't want to be fake with this person. i don't know if an email was the right thing, because now they have documentation of you talking shit. also i think in general you want to be positive and not put bad energy out there. try to do everything from a place of compassion i think

I get that, but I still feel off about all of this.

He's flipping it 180 degrees and creating false expectations. It's like that guy who dances around for you to show how much fun everyone is having and then when you enter, he turns into a parole officer. I think we should take people at our level. People who have the right expectations and match the level of the workplace, instead of trying to deceive someone who qualifies for a much better job and coax them into signing a contract prematurely on false pretenses.

I think you're right. I probably should stfu in the future.

However, I feel like what's happening is that we're taking advantage of unsuspecting people, and particularly young people who don't know any better.

No but I'm hoping she will reward me with sex in return.

Am I an idiot for thinking she will let me bang her? I don't know. I sometimes have trouble understanding human females. It is my dream to mate with one.. Anyway, she owes me.
