Sure but i don't think musk is one of those people, his entire time line is him buying things, promising great changes, fucking it up, and then complaining about it while trying to front that he was The Guy that started it.
A world without Elon would mean the documentary "Who killed the Electric Car" would still have great meaning. This is why he's a star on Planet Earth, and not the other CEO's of car companies.
Elon also put America back into Space. His idea, his funding. Risky stuff. Jeff Bezos is inspired by what Elon did and also builds fancy drone rockets.
Tesla's are dope. The technology in them are next level, they have disrupted the super car space while raising the bar on crash safety. More power output and range than it's competitors to date.
Did Elon do it all on his own ? No. But he is the wave function that set it in motion while no one else would.
He tends to lie a lot, especially about how he got started and how his family had money.
Errol Musk came across some money in the 90's. If the exact year was 1990, Elon would have already been 19 years old.
You keep hearing about the 120hr a week he does (which honestly, it's likely he counts time not being in bed as working hours even if he's not specifically at work, twit), like it's super insane or something but there's plenty of people in this country working that or around that just to make ends meet, he keeps trying to play this persona that he think will make him so cool and different, and honestly? The Onion got him down to a T.
Dude had to pump out Tesla's cheapest car which to date has a stupid long waiting list, at the time he had 1 gigafactory.
I'm miles away from the Gigafactory and all the way up here we have Model 3's all over the place. The oldest production Model 3 is 5 years old. They called it "Production Hell" and it was thee car that made Tesla more stable, lest it would destroy them.

The reality is probably a middle ground of the two.
Elon is a petty douchebag who says and does controversial things that makes half the population cope and seethe while the other half blindly cheers.
Elon is also an incredibly productive human being, maybe not superman levels as the myth around him states, but certainly one of the best mangers of resources, capital, and processes in modern times. Space X and Tesla are obviously not failures and he's been a big part in shaping them as incredibly efficient manufacturing processes that rely on incredibly robust supply chains, even if his influence is creating a culture in which those things can actualize.
George Hotz, who is without a doubt one of the best self-driving car developers in the world (its neck and neck with tesla despite comma.ai being a much smaller company) knows Musk and has talked to him in length about software engineering and manufacturing. According to Hotz Elon knows his shit pretty well and knows how to delegate even better which is what a good CEO/Owner does. Hotz will call anyone out on their bs so I am inclined to believe Elon isn't some retard who somehow runs companies responsible for some of the most advanced and successful manufacturing processes in history.
That doesn't mean he is a great person or a God.
