Spam Bots

Why do you keep them TC ?

Is it an experiment ?

I have another forum for some game I play, and it's become infested with bots, always trying to trick us to clicking links. I imagine whenever the links are clicked someone get's paid.

These bots at times seem to use chat software for a brief response before changing subjects.

If the bots remain intact, are we to expect less of them ? Thete are some news one here.

Anyway, I'm inquiring about this wondering why exactly we keep them ?

I think there's some question as to whether or not they really are bots.  (Is this a split infinitive, Med? :) )

Otherwise, there are, what, two active ones?  "zadian" and the "Kimberly" one, I think?  There might be a couple others, but they don't seem as frequent.

Are you taking marching orders from Med or something ?

Dude. Try communicating with the bot. I haven't tried myself, cause I recognize what they are.

I'm just wondering why do we keep them.

No curiousity over their choices of topics to bump?  Alright.  A ruse as a bot would be pretty easy to keep.

 My bet is on "laziness".

I assume the topics they bump are random.

Laziness, that's possible. Maybe we should call Inq.

They aren't, a lot of the ones I'm deleting are the same few topics over and over. The titles tend to be a relevant jab at a user, too, if not otherwise something weird or gross.

I'm also not 'keeping them' post-wise anyway, they get deleted fairly routinely. I collected them as it was a funny joke for a while but then the collection-post got full, the joke got old, and they began to go for topics they'd never replied in before to try to thwart that.

Banning would accomplish nothing otherwise as is apparent by the occasional random new name. They just have to be cleaned up after, it's no biggie.

This is, at best, a temporary solution.  Whomever is behind the bots will either take that as a sign to increase efforts or simply autogenerate new accounts.  The way things are set up, anti-escalation is a strategy.  There are probably other factors.  If we're worried about spamming, there's other-than-bots to worry about then.

Okay that's it. I'm going to click all their links which will then incentivise the intruder to build an army.
