some examples of shadow work

I am finding it interesting that a lot of people participate in doing shadow work without even realizing that they are doing it

-  journalling or talking to someone extensively and honestly as in no filter about your fears about a certain situation

-  journalling or talking to someone extensively and honestly as in no filter about your opinions about various situations and various topics

-  doing tarot readings  / pick a card readings online and on youtube about yourself

-  answering questions from your therapist extensively and honestly as in no filter during therapy sessions as Turncoat mentioned

essentially participating in anything that reveals what is lurking behind your emotional reactions and intuitive feelings about situations and people and topics is a way of exploring your subconscious and essentially shadow work

I personally have been participating in shadow work for years like since my early twenties without even realizing that there was a "spiritual term" for what I was doing

learning how to heal trauma that is lying in your shadow is even more important that doing shadow work though,  and this is the part that takes time and a lot of experimenting to find what frees you from subconscious harmful self sabotaging beliefs  (because a lot of times you have to find where these subconscious harmful self sabotaging beliefs originated from,  and then you have to come to an understanding on why those beliefs are first of all not even true and accurate,  and second of all not useful and that there are better more benevolent self supportive beliefs to have)

The symptoms of it can be overcome, but people still tend to carry it with them rather than forgetting it entirely.
