A musket could be locally engineered with that time's common industry and a musket can shoot different types of projectiles because the gun actually works as the main holder of what shoots the projectile. 

Ultimately what we see is that guns divide people into further classes and a lot of active protests are countered by gun owners, disproving that guns are about freedom.
