saying that he would no longer drink from the fruit of the vine during the passover meal ? Matthew 26:29
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
context context context, sighh admittedly this one almost tripped me up, but if we look at Luke 22:15-18
Luke 22:15-18
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
we can see clearly that Jesus is saying that he will never partake of the passover bread and passover wine again, because he was going to be fulfilling all of the symbolism and ritual behind the passover that very next day through his death (the death of the Innocent lamb, which relates back to Exodus and the sparing of the firstborn children of Israel by obeying the command of smearing the blood of the slaughtered lambs on the doorposts) and this is why later on he asks of God if this cup can be passed from him and so on (the passover cup, which he was to soon symbolically fulfill through his death)
