The song used to freak me out when I was a child.
The US military is known to have used that song in psychological warfare. When the US invaded Panama they seriously blasted it on loud speakers, I imagine it intimidated their opponents.
Panama's dictator Manuel Noriega took refuge in the Vatican embassy, so they flushed him out with heavy metal music. Funny enough, the song that was playing when he surrendered was "Never Gonna Give you Up" and now Manuel is known by some to be the first person to get Rick Rolled.

The song does create a weird atmosphere, I also found it strong when I was a kid when my folks would listen to it.
in response to both of you, EXACTLY. i used to sing this song at staff when i would beat them up, or be running away from them escaping the institution. the most notable was one of the times i released a bunch of kids from their cells after i used a match to make all the fire alarms go off "and the emergency sprinklers" which automatically opened everyones doors. i screamed to all the kids i did this shit and to escape and then i started singing the song. sadly, i slipped on the water because the slippery ass hallway beind made of tile and covered in water made my dumb ass slip and smack my head really hard on the floor. another time i sang it i was throwing a bunch of rocks down at staff trying to use a ramp to get up to me. or another time i got in an elevator and lured staff there only to press the emergency stop button so they would see how the fuck it really felt to be trapped in a small room. i sang it at first. then i sat quietly in the corner watching them to give them that sweet sweet sense of sensory deprivation
