Is it perhaps a different sort of need these days that people have than the ones expressed from like... hundreds of years ago?
If The Bible were modernized (by God, before we get into the pretender angle), what issues do you think it'd focus on from the here-and-now?
People still need the same basics, food, clothing, shelter, a sense of community what "new needs" do they have ?
'A Sense of Community' actually is one of the big changes.
There are otherwise systems in place that make it very different from how it used to be to gather supplies, and often that's where the traps are laid through commerce.
