For decades anti-vaxx'er has been looked down upon, lesser. and for some good reason.

Why do you figure that is? Shouldn't concepts like Herd Immunity still apply regardless of the time period?

People are waking up and getting angry. Rightly so

I still say those with wealth and influence have more room to profit off of other areas, and that vaccine work being legitimate would look good on their corporate portfolio as a matter of both professional integrity and philanthropy. This is a rare opportunity for corporations to make themselves look like 'the good guys' and get themselves recognized historically, something they could pad their advertising with until the next plague 100 years from now.

If their vaccines don't appear like they're working, that'd stand to besmirch the vaccine corporations in question. It makes more sense from a business standpoint to make a cure that actually works while investing in the components of newly forming industries like what Amazon's done for cardboard and paper products. The existence of a pandemic has people less motivated to go to work, and less workers means less money, so curing this thing would make more sense unless you invest in certain niche demands that would otherwise phase out without a pandemic.

The genius idea instead would be to invent a fake disease, keep it localized to one culture so that only their own news can report on it, and then pretend to cure it. Dragging it out like this is not profitable past a point, and making it a worldwide conspiracy would make it too difficult to control.
