It's an odds game where much of it is rigged beyond the power a president has. All we can do is pick option A or B to tell those who are actually in power what the people want, there's not much else we can do. 

Picking option C in a way that's meaningful would mean arranging an entire social wave, one vote on it's own for an outside candidate is like voting for Mickey Mouse. This social wave would then need some means of outlasting the three months of hype it'd generate before losing steam.
