Hackers have created a new strain of ransomware called "Goodwill" which puts a new twist on ransomware. Instead of paying a ransom in bitcoin or some other cryptocurrency, victims of goodwill are required to do charitable actions, such as donate clothing, feed hungry children, and pay strangers medical bills, and put this on social media for the hackers to verify.
Wait what the fuck, 6 minutes in, Activity 2 is kinda...
Why are they trying to normalize computer people hanging out with random children?
"I'm not a pedophile officer, I'm just treating these kids to a warm meal to unlock my files."
"Hey kid, you're under 13 right? Wanna get in my van for some Domino's Pizza? I got files to decrypt."
"Look, I know that's a lot of photos of me going out with children, but it's for a good cause!"
Turncoat said:Where is it stinging people from?No idea, but it's always nice to see some humorous or good-natured malware/viruses. Most these days are about money or damage.
Check activity 2...
Yeah, taking kids to a Pizza Hut. Jim does that all the time?
Why do they need to be under thirteen?
I feel like this is meant to grant pedophilia that much more of a smokescreen. With non-pedophiles going through this it gives them that much more room to normalize adults picking up random children.
Seems like it's done by Indians with little understanding of Western social norms. If you've watched a bit of scambaiting videos, one thing that becomes pretty clear is that many Indians don't seem to realize what is normal to us, like getting 3 people on the line to sing "happy birthday" to you is rather extraordinary. My hunch is that they meant well, but it's 2 nerds in Delhi who barely know what they're doing.
