I'm wondering why that is.

In Scotland there was a referendum in which they decided whether Scotland should be part of the UK or not. they voted to be part of the UK. but the referendum of the Russian majority in the Crimea is illegal in any case. why is that? simply because the Russians are untermensch for the Western world.

when Kosovo Albanians captured Serbian Kosovo, the western world recognized their right to self-determination. now they are independent from Serbia. but when the pro-Russian rebels captured Donetsk and Lugansk, they became terrorists. simply because the Russians are untermensch for the Western world.

Bandera? lol he's been dead for decades.

I don't hear many Ukrainians singing his praises rn.

Apparently, Bandera did save a whole lot of Ukrainians from some shitty circumstances... can't remember if it was the Horodomor...?  So they were given the choice of starving to death/ going to a gulag under Stalin or siding with a Nazi who treated them comparatively well. That's fucked up but understandable.

We still have statues of John A McDonald who killed thousands of Chinese and First Nations people in prominent places up here. His face is on our money. Does that mean we're all racist colonizing d bags, too?

Ukrainian President Yushchenko recognized this bastard as a hero of Ukraine in 2010. I wonder why members of the Ku Klux Klan are not heroized in the United States? Poles and Jews have nothing to do with the Holodomor, but the Ukrainian Nazis killed even their children. now these bastards are recognized as heroes of Ukraine. you have to be pigs to be recognized as national heroes in the 21st century.

There are no Nazis in Ukraine.

If there were Nazis there, the NATO countries (including Germany, who are deeply ashamed of their past) would not have given them all those billions of dollars worth of equipment to fight the Ruzzian orcs.

Volunteer fighters from around the world would not be enlisting to fight beside the Ukrainians.

Poland and Canada would not have sent the #1 and #2 highest numbers of volunteer fighters. (Hint: Nazis are widely and deeply despised in both countries :P)

The world is comparing Putin's army to these monsters, in case the news hasn't reached you all the way at the North Pole.

Putin is lying to you.

This war is about Putin's greed.

in this video, the Germans accidentally filmed a Ukrainian military vehicle with a swastika.
This is the Kraken Battalion. Ukraine is just a paradise for the Nazis of the whole world.

Dima and Xena, I find it interesting to watch you both debate propaganda party lines;

Xena: The "Orc" and "Ruzzian" language that you use is a deliberate, conscious propaganda tool promulgated by the West and Ukraine, used in order to dehumanize.

Dima: The "denazification" angle is obvious, ridiculous Russian propaganda.

I'm obviously pro-Ukraine in this argument (and think it would be disingenuous to disguise my allegiances), but you're both hook, line and sinker with party lines while accusing the other.

Anyway, just felt that warranted a comment.

In other news, I suspect the next steps will be a sub-nuclear escalation by Russia. Probably a conventional military assault on supply lines close to a NATO border (likely Poland), but it's possible that the Nord Stream attack served this purpose. Putin will attempt to signal that his reach extends beyond Ukraine.

Failing this, nuclear escalation is possible, but I'd note that Ukraine has been attacking Crimean territory for months now, without Putin playing the "threat on our territorial integrity" card. Makes one question what the pomp and circumstance around the annexed territories was all about - I wonder if it served a more domestic purpose than the initial concerns around pretext for nuclear escalation.

I think the next few months before winter will be very telling.

Donbas Region Overwhelmingly Votes to Join Russia, International Observers Debunk Pro-War Media Narrative

"The people of the Donbas region voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining Russia in referendums held this week, which concluded yesterday with over 90% of Donbas residents supporting the measure. The vote comes 8 years after the region voted to secede from Ukraine by similar margins, establishing the pro-Russia Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk after 2014’s Soros-sponsored revolution overthrew Ukraine’s elected government. In spite of claims made by the pro-war corporate press that the referendums were “shams,” international observers on the ground say the votes were in fact free and fair."

"Orc" and "Ruzzian" are used to make it clear that we understand Russia is a big place full of diverse ethnic groups with diverse ideological perspectives. The ones committing atrocities on Ukrainians are the ones we hate.

They don't deserve to be called Russians. That's an insult to Russians.

We could call them pigs, dogs, or assholes.

But that would also be an insult to pigs, dogs and assholes.

Without this differentiation, it would be much more difficult to discuss this topic with ordinary civilians like Dima who hold a different point of view.

Many kind hearted Russians who consider the Ukrainians their brothers, and many who are literally related to Ukrainians are appalled and saddened by this war. Using terms like "orc" and "Ruzzian" is meant as a kindness to them. They're the exact opposite of the war criminals we despise bc many of them are getting their heads kicked in by police and getting dragged off to prison for protesting openly.
