I googled PTG and the most relevant seeming thing was "post-traumatic growth", so I'm just gonna assume that's what you mean..
I don't really think that trauma has the ability to improve us, providing it's actual trauma, as opposed to routine "character building" difficult circumstances. Actual life or death trauma is just damaging, often permanently.
But that's not to say that we can't still live productive, relatively content and normal lives alongside trauma. I just don't think it can improve anyone, if that makes sense.
