I think it's weird that they lectured you about it. People aren't obliged to find all un-PC humor funny, but just give an unamused facial expression and move on.

I don't really think a follow-up comment is warranted unless someone is literally saying some FBI-worthy shit. But if it's just an off-color joke, who gives a fuck?

Most people who'd be called out for their audacity have typically already heard the same somewhere else before. Many of them are itching for the opportunity of seeing how people would respond to it if they're being overt, it's rare to find someone who isn't at least relatively self-aware through their peers unless it's culturally allowed to coast or they're just that oblivious.
