I would like to learn programming and join the IT industry. This seems like a strange question to be asking on sociopath community, but where do you reckon I should start? If you had to learn one skill, what would you learn? If you were hiring someone to work for you, what would you look for? What kind of skills do you need in, e.g., a growing startup company?

There is no good single answer to this. Like sure I could say learn Java or learn Python, but it completely depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Idk if this is what you would consider a skill, but “dedication”. If you can truly dedicate yourself to a field you can accomplish anything in 20 years.

Good advice. I'm highly dedicated to my work, which however is not the IT industry.
It's not clear to me what a prototypical start-up company wants in its employees. Or is that highly specialized these days? In my line of work, most people try to hire talents, as opposed to hyper-specialized people.
