 If you study the book of Revelation you'll learn that Christ's return will terrify everyone. He's also going to bring weapons and he'll be very wrathful.

That'll happen after wormwood falls from the sky.

By description fire will fall from the sky and hit the ground like figs falling out of a tree. By modern translation this is believed to be meteor rain impacting the Earth. Wormwood will contaminate our drinking water rendering it undrinkable while the world is set ablaze.

Purification is an ugly process.

There are those that believe Chernobyl was "Wormwood" and its meltdown was this event in Revelations 8...

 Chernobyl, Not even close. 

I do think Wormwood will be radioactive though.

Reminds me a bit of the Dothraki belief in how the world will end:

The idea of a barbarian people fearing a mythical equivalent of Kudzu is kind of a pretty narrative. 

It's hard to believe it won't be people being their own end, but there is something sort of pure to a story where something else introduced into nature could surpass our own damages or otherwise offset an important balance. 

My hope is nature responds with Godzilla.
