Okay so a year ago(?) Faceapp was waaaaay terrible with overly masculine faces. This is an overly processed picture of chapo a year ago before the 2 or so updates the app has had:

It was basically melting Ai art, this went throu at least 10 female filters and a couple of youth filters before i could get it to look somewhat soft and it was still melty.

After the upgrade; 

This went through a shave filter and one female filter↑

This bottom one went through a couple of tweaks and sizing before i started to add make up and impressions, maybe a level one young adult filter ↓

The app has gotten significantly better tbh

I can nearly imagine what the software is doing. It has a way of capturing outlines even though it has soft edges, then it uses the image as a texture when it's done bending the image into shape.

The eyes need work. 

The facial recognition software's where I'm more like "woah" about it, the rest of it's like photoshop tools.
