Australia is transitioning into being a no smoking country. Soon you will need a doctor's prescription to buy cigarettes.

eh, it's being super blown out of proportion, especially it seems in US media. there's been a bit of anti lock down protesting happening and some of the idiots got arrested and shit. wasn't handled the best but not so bad either really.
Weird to hear some americans on tiktok being like "pray for australia" "save australia" like... save us from what? free health care? the govt replacing the weekly income of anyone who's job is affected by lockdown/covid? save us from the idiots who are protesting just because they're bored maybe yeah

That doesn't surprise me. The Media will make it seem like the entire place is having a fist fight with law enforcement, but I'm pretty sure the majority of people are going about their business. Cars on the road every day etc.

The vaccine & everything related has ended up as another polarized issue in the rift between the left and right here. Thus there's a lot of people contra vax—and just like many pro-vax—they cherry pick exemplars for their arguments. Australia isn't discussed much here, but those tuned into echo chambers will hear about it. I'd seen some videos. It's also on the radar of this conservative guy I talk to sometimes; he was saying how Australians won't stand for how they're being treated much longer. But that guy is also kind of stupid, and he only follows conservative outlets.
