I like it for it's room to make philosophical commentary about the state of the world without spoonfeeding it to us. They focus a lot on the element of choice and utilize a surprising amount of symbolism. Even the characters' weaknesses are believably shown, especially for Seong Gi-hun's hapless spending problems being made to not look like a caricature in just the first episode alone.

The characters are well written with actors that clearly care (mostly for the contestants), the pacing and the means of reveals hitting the audience at the same time as the contestants forces some level of relation to them, the visuals were of good production value to the point of arguably being high art, there's easter eggs all over the place that support a 'show don't tell' style of narration that overlays having the Squares explain the games, it gives room to ask yourself philosophical questions from episode to episode, especially the one where they split into groups of two...
Overall it's a quality piece of work, which surprised me when I originally picked it from it seeming like corny B-Movie tier garbage like Battle Royale. It's like a more maturely handled BR, which is ironic for how they make them play children's games. I wanted to stretch my viewing of it to one a night but ended up finishing the series in two.
