You have to love yourself too. And in many cases, other people's desires are mistaken as needs, and those aren't more important than your actual needs.
You're on the right track though. When you're able to give without any reciprocation or take any credit and be comfortable with that, you'll be enlightened and the same old bullshit won't phase you, then great things come about cause you're not focused on, petty behavior that generally drag people to the point they spend too much time going on about what is really harmless.
This doesn't make you immune to bullshit though, you'll have to limit your time with weak people if they don't respect your boundaries. You seen it before, you know what it is, so when they disgust you just avoid it.
You have to do enough for yourself to be able to do things for others, and you have to love yourself to be free to love others.
It all starts within ourselves, otherwise there's nothing to share with the others.
