Same deal, the world wasn't ready for a black female protagonist. The plot was whitewashed for sales, it's obvious that Hermione's writing has more depth behind it than Harry's, enough to suspect she was meant to be the main character. 

They even tried to shoehorn in the racism angle with "Mudbloods".

Well, yeah, it was a widely successful book from her towing within the lines, but it's clearly there in the subtext of their writing (especially for Hermione).
