I've seen aspies escape the "I'm not stuck" loop from being made to question why others accuse them of it. They can understand relative thinking through others after enough patterns and cycles.

rarely, only the ones who have the initial purpose of communicating not proving that their ideas are superior or unique, many of them are depressed af and self pitying as well, don't think they are "harmless" btw, they are very capable of manipulation and aggressiveness
Well yeah, many of them employ the successful strategies that work for five year olds. If the person they're talking to has a weakness in those sorts of areas they can find themselves bound with pity and responsibility.
It works as far as how much their opponent is willing to fight themselves, and society cultivates this pity onto a grander scale.

I mean that you could ask an engineering savant the color of the sky, and they'd likely follow with a series of answers about their favorite things instead.
The real challenge if you ask me is finding their midground: They are more prone to black and white thinking, friend vs foe, smart vs dumb, etc. It's not hard to befriend or befoe an autist, but it is hard for them to say you're just "alright".
For the same reason you'd ask a speedrunner about life; They aren't going to give you the typical answer. They are also capable of adaptation at all, so the time doesn't feel as wasted.
Even autists have something to contribute to the conversation, assuming they can stick to the actual topic instead of tangenting it towards something centering too closely to their own lives similar to that of narcissism.
autists and narcissists (especially of low IQ) are LITERALLY identically useless in contributing anything to any conversation, unless they humble themselves
A humble narc is usually just looking for an opening to do the same things, but them looking for openings is at least more socially conscious.

I have a Bachelors in Psychology with a focus on the Abnormal, and I've also been friends with a few. I've also in general found it easier to befriend 'diagnosed' people who've had to face disorder stigma as an issue as opposed to a badge of honor/conversation starter, so this has given me experiences with a lot of different life paths. Back before I had my schizoaffective diagnosis, I also thought that, through exploring other people, that I might one day understand myself better, so I basically tried to look at myself in the mirror through the social experience relatively.
I literally find fun in going outside (or online) and spectating other people's lives, so I got a degree in it. 🤷

If it's them getting into an ego snag... it's not always mimicking, it's a legit issue. The difference between the two tends to lie in if they focus on the emotional or what they believe is the literal. They may argue in the same style over it but at their core when you dig enough you see the motivations typically split around there.
Narcs and autists will both say their 'foes' are dumb and mean, but the narc is more focused on 'mean' while the autist is more focused on results. A narc can be relieved through some simple lip service that reinforces their delusions while an autist doesn't 'need' the help.
They get stuck but they can be made to understand social awkwardness. Show them they're stuck and a lot of them can escape the loops (if not fall into an ironic 'I'm not stuck' loop).
They respond to correction at all, which is leagues and bounds above true autism. For the latter you have to practically go Pavlov on them to get the message across.
