I love Tesla too. Non gasoline cars may be a necessity in the future as well or, a huge advantage. The demand for them and cost may go up even. Who knows. I’d invest now in one if you are able. However there is rumored an affordable version will be being released in the near future.

watch this one Tony... you might like. The new electric porsche

starts at @16:26

there's a good number of electric vehicles or hybrid coming from a lot of brands, or coming very soon in the near future- as well as entirely new brands  of vehicles coming out. so if you're curios about electric vehicles I highly recommend doing your research and not just going with Tesla because it's the only one you know of.

also something to take into account is, there is one new company or new brand of vehicle coming out that is entirely electric, and they are going to be placing electric charging stations all over the world to compensate for the disparity.

My only concern with the charging stations other than lack of charging locations currently (though that will improve with time granted) is the lack of security at them. I personally think it’s naive to attract the highest luxury consumers to one place where it can become a feeding ground for gun point robbery and I would pay money annually like for the highway passes e-pass etc to enter a secure building and charge inside. Or some sort of security measures should be taken place as I can foresee this going horribly wrong in certain areas.

It will be more difficult in countries like Italy or Brazil, New Zealand, in rural parts of the world there are hardly enough gas stations and definitely no power sources for miles and miles, long stretches of land.

Ewan McGregor was actually in a documentary regarding the issue sponsored by one of the new vehicle brands coming out. They were supposed to release in 2021 I believe but due to Covid it was delayed. But if you’re curious to see how that goes as far as electric vehicles vs. rural areas and charging disparities, and how companies are seeking to correct that issue, it’s a good documentary to watch.

That’s why I am hesitant though to buy a classic gas vehicle is because I strongly believe in the next 5-10 years we are going to see a dramatic increase in the commonality of electric vehicles on the road. All the brands are going that way and issuing electric now. And I think it’s probably for the better, for the environment especially.

So if you were thinking of getting a new vehicle now, I would hold out and do your research about the awesome new (and somewhat affordable) electric vehicles coming down the pipe very soon.

About the Porsche: the fancy bells and whistles are cute, and the curvaceous model appeals to me. But the main selling point to me from what I can tell from just this video is the smoothness of the drive.

my concern though is, if it is possible for the vehicle to have a completely silent interior and noise cancelling if possible as a lot of calls and such I do in the car I really would prefer it being quiet.

Another requirement for me personally is drivers assist, I like to be beeped at when something is about to hit me or I’m about to hit it. It’s really helpful and in the Mercedes it has literally saved my life dozens of times from wrecking the thing. Lol

And another thing to consider is if you’re enamored with the model x’s self driving capacity... I don’t know if any other vehicle on the market or soon to be on the market has that. I personally would never use that feature as I don’t trust it, it’s not that I don’t believe in the software engineering, I think it’s amazing. But I just don’t trust the other people on the road and the roads themselves. I just don’t think we are quite there yet though the sentiment is nice, I just, I can see it going wrong. Though I haven’t tested it myself I have read horror stories already about it and it’s enough for me to proceed with caution.

My favorite part is the panoramic sunroof which is available on a lot of vehicles now. But that’s sort of a must have feature for me if I am going to spend all that on a brand new vehicle I want it to have that beautiful panoramic glass top roof.

My qualms with the Porsche from what I can tell is, I don’t like how heavy the electric charging station looks. It would be nice for a vehicle at that degree of luxury for the car to be technologically advanced enough to plug itself in, and to even park itself into the place you program it to.

These are features that would have me sold, but they don’t really exist yet.

So what I mean is, well, I don’t feel like man handling this big heavy clunky hose you know what I mean. I think it would be cool if you just pull up next to the station and you don’t have to get out (this would greatly solve the security issue I was talking about earlier as well) and then the robotic device just extends out and has a censor set up to recognize where it needs to port into the charging station in your vehicle and then connects itself, charges, and removes itself when it’s done.

Touch less charging essentially is what I would call it and I think it’s a very necessary change electric vehicles should make to their charging process and stations around the world, including at home stations.

This car was made by volkswagen in 2013-2016 but is now discontinued! And it was the most fuel-efficient in the world at the time of its launch in 2013. I never saw this car on the road though at the time, and I haven't seen one since- so I guess it was either a) too expensive or b) ahead of its time? Perhaps a bit of both. Regardless, it is interesting. Also I love these photos!

"If you hear anyone talk about a 3.8 m (12.7 ft) long and 1.15 m (3.8 ft) tall vehicle, with a starting price of over EUR 110.000 and in a 250 units limited edition, you'd probably think of a sports car. Well, in this case it is not. It is the Volkswagen XL1, the most fuel-efficient production vehicle in the world at the time of its launch, in 2013.

The concept came from the idea of Dr. Ferdinand Piech, Porsche's nephew and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen, who wanted a practical car able to achieve a fuel consumption of under 1 l/100 km (235 mpg-US).

The Volkswagen XL1 has a low profile, very aerodynamic with its CX under 0.2 and a plug-in hybrid system with a two-cylinder diesel engine. The car was so energy-efficient that it needed only 8.4 hp to run at a constant speed of 100 kph (62 mph).

The energy came from an 800 cc turbodiesel, which developed 48 hp plus an electric motor of 20 kW. The power unit was mated to a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch) gearbox. The maximum speed was an electronically limited to 160 kph (99.4 mph) and the aim of low fuel consumption was achieved. The demand for the 250 units built was so big that the manufacturer decided to analyze and choose who will get the car or not. The XL 1 was like a Ferrari for the eco-friendly car world."

PRESS RELEASE:

"The Volkswagen XL1 is the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, with a fuel consumption value of 0.9 l/100 km. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, the two-seater can also cover a distance of up to 50 km in all-electric mode and therefore with zero local emissions.

The VW XL1 is an automotive hero that follows pure sports car design principles: low weight (795 kg), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a low centre of gravity (1,153 mm high). This gives the efficient Volkswagen the ability to cruise on the road at a constant speed of 100 km/h using just 6.2 kW / 8.4 PS. In all-electric mode, the Volkswagen XL1 requires less than 0.1 kWh to cover a driving distance of over one kilometer.

High-tech lightweight design, perfect aerodynamics and a plug-in hybrid system - consisting of a two-cylinder TDI engine (35 kW / 48 PS), E-motor (20 kW / 27 PS), 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) and lithium-ion battery - all make it possible for the new Volkswagen XL1 to emit just 21 g/km of CO2. If necessary, the XL1, with a top speed of 160 km/h, can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 12,7 seconds. Clearly, 0.9 l/100 km fuel consumption is a record figure that has not been achieved by any other vehicle to date, and it illustrates how Volkswagen is redefining what is technically feasible in carmaking.

Conceptually, the VW XL1 represents the third evolutionary stage of Volkswagen's 1-litre car strategy. When the new millennium was ushered in, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Piëch, who is today Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG, formulated the visionary goal of bringing to market a production car that was practical in everyday use with fuel consumption of one litre per 100 km. In the two-seat XL1, this vision has become reality. Despite the tremendous efficiency of the Volkswagen XL1, developers successfully came up with a body concept, which delivers more everyday utility than in the two previous prototypes. While the driver and passenger sat in a tandem arrangement for optimal aerodynamics in the L1, the 1-litre car presented in 2002 and in 2009, in the XL1 two occupants sit slightly offset, side by side, nearly as in a conventional vehicle.

The Volkswagen XL1 is 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,153 mm tall. By usual automotive standards these are extreme dimensions. For comparison: a Polo has a similar length (3,970 mm) and width (1,682 mm) but is significantly taller (1,462 mm). Even a purebred sports car like today's Porsche Boxster is 129 mm taller (1,282 mm). So, the VW XL1 will make a spectacular appearance - a car of the future, built for today."

I think the XC40 Recharge pure-electric coming soon by Volvo looks interesting, worth looking into perhaps.
