One of the more odd things I've seen. (Sorry, it's age restricted and you'd have to tab it).
“I was in a mental hospital once but they just gave me some anxiety meds and told me I was good.”
“Sometimes I don’t feel anything but people don’t believe me, they seem to think it’s real funny.”
“My family aren’t safe people, they get really violent. They’re mentally ill.”
”My entire family are all either bipolar or schizophrenic.”
“I was abused.”
“I wasn’t raised right. I’m real messed up.”
this is sad. This was a cry for help and a kid who the mental health system failed. Example A.
Not to blame it all on the mental health system, but, I feel like we have these mental health organizations in place as a way to sort of filter out people from society that are dangerous and to take care of them *before* they do something to harm themselves or others.
But in this instance he was probably seen for a total of three days (because that’s all insurance covers) and spit back out with some benzos to get addicted and high on.
Which obviously didn’t help him, in the slightest...
person: “you’ve been planning this, we know about it. You’ve been planning this since 2013. You plan this?”
Shooter: “only when I get depressed.”

the other “talkers” on the internet planning to attack as well were likely just blowing steam but it made him feel safe or like he wasn’t alone. In his homicidal ideation or whatever was going on in his head at the time. It probably made him feel more comfortable or, perhaps he was worried other people would get to the mark first seeing as they were planning it and he wanted to be the one to do it to that particular school as it’s where he went? Not sure but just a thought... theory.
And then he quickly realized he was going to likely get killed or perhaps didn’t actually want to harm anyone? But just liked the sensationalized idea of being the shooter and so he laid his gun down?
that’s the part I don’t get, what happened in those few seconds in the hall where he decided to lay the gun down and didn’t continue. Whatever happened there was sort of miraculous because it stopped him from continuing.
he said, “I wasn’t even sure if the gun would work”
meaning he didn’t have time to test it. And then had low impulse control. So my guess is yeah he saw the people talking on the internet about targeting that school that particular day and wanted to be the first one to the punch.
that would explain the... lack of preparation.
and then as soon as he did fire the gun it shocked him into, what, realizing hey, I could get shot too, that looks like it hurts oh no, what am I doing I better surrender so I don’t get killed?
What was he thinking is what I’m trying to understand. It just doesn’t make sense. obviously it’s insane and irrational to begin with so trying to apply logic to this is just... yeah. A mess.
Like the cop said. “What the hell?”
what do you think? Was he just blaming mental illness trying to get out of jail time?
was he being recruited and manipulated perhaps by an online terrorist cell of some sort, and they encouraged him to do it but then he got scared and backed down?
regardless, I’m glad he did scared. The psychology though of what made him stop is crucial to understand in order to prevent this in the future.
Spotting troubled kids in the schools and making sure they get proper help, are removed from bad home situations or are given proper support and guidance.
And improving school security are all good proposals in theory to prevent these events from occurring with such frequency in the future.
for example, it is odd to me that no longer being a student he was able to enter the schools property park and then walk onto campus. At my school this isn’t possible.
due to the security, its genuinely very difficult to sneak on or off of the property as a student or- as someone who should not be there and is not a student or a confirmed parent of the child.
not “anyone” can just walk on in or drive on in and park.
And during drop off hours and pick up every car is monitored so if someone unusual got out I think at that point it would be the staffs job to notice. Still could slide by though easily.
But, more often then not, the shootings do occur from someone who goes to the school currently so they have no problem getting on campus. But, the fact he was able to bring a bag like that in should be illegal. Filled with ammunition and a gun, weapon etc.
There should be metal detectors, as there are in a lot of schools in my state.
but what was most, of an eye sore to me wasn’t just the, “how the hell did he even get in there?” Part. It was how slow, disorganized and unmanned the... response was. To notification of active shooter.
the kids in that hallway, should they of been relying on that one cop who just ran as fast as he could from the other end of campus to the scene... they’d all be dead. By the time he got there.
And if the shooter was unhinged enough, he would of just shot the cop too.
Not great protocol at all for disarming and catching someone. He had way too much time to roam freely after the first shot was fired.
