Ex con artist Matthew Cox talks about his experience

Essence of the story is, Matthew Cox used to run a bunch of scams of all types, mostly related to mortgage. But also getting fake IDs, passports, impersonation, whatever else. He was getting up in the millions on schemes basically operating on thin air and manipulation. He says openly that he's a narcissist and sociopathic, etc., but he doesn't seem to act like a total prick anymore. At least not too much.

I've been watching him on the Koncrete podcast, and it seems clear to me that he's still manipulative. But it's one of those cases where it doesn't even matter, because the person is engaging and has really funny stories. The ones where he talks about the books he's written about financial crime inmates are awesome.

I haven't watched the prostitute ones so much, maybe a few. Not good memory for those, I was probably buzzed. Still really good from what I remember. Shit, we even knew one from here named Macaria come to think of it.

I can remember more of the pimp stories. Interesting commonality in those tends to be that the guy either grew up around it or was introduced in his teens. And that was similar with the prostitution stories and the gang stories—it's like a lot of these people were conditioned for what they were going to do. The host does really well to set everything up logically; it's such a cool channel in that regard.

What I find interesting about Mr. Cox is how he navigates social situations. On the podcasts he joins, he's with these dudes in their young 20s that are saying some really dumb shit, but he never gets frustrated. He knows when to just ignore what they're saying, and to continue a narrative and make things not awkward. It's an impressive read on the room mixed with great engagement.
