No. The problem is viewing ethnomathematics as the victimization of white men. Math has an objective, measurable truth. It doesn't matter if different roads lead to the truth. And saying that some people are just good at math and some aren't is kinda the problem. It dismisses a massive swath of the population that process information differently. 

Ethnomathematics teaches people to understand how mathematics continues to be culturally adapted and used by people around the globe. We live in a global civilization dominated by mathematically based technology and unprecedented means of communication. But students are still expected to assimilate prescribed procedures by rote without gaining a deeper and conceptually significant understanding of the mathematics they study. 

And most current mathematic programs are preparing people for jobs that won't exist in the future. We need a technologically capable workforce able to create solutions to problems that currently don't exist with technologies that have not yet been invented. If we don't don't do this, we will be slaves to other cultures that are better at it.

 Ethnomathematics wastes time on stuff thats not math. It teaches shit like how west african civilizations are more advanced in astronomy than modern day science.

It at best wastes time, and at worst, leads people down into pseudoscience. It teaches people about African cultures more than say - the Chinese, who are much more important globally.

Michio Kaku once said that English was a Type 1 language, but I think mathematics might be better classified as such.  What is so strikingly ironic is how, in the efforts to bridge diversity in the name of commonality, we divide the efforts and further reinforce differences.  Paradox, thy name is ethno-(insert whatever here).  It's actually something you could model mathematically...  Well, if we're using the same math.

I suppose they also forget that algebra was invented by Babylonians and further developed by medieval Islam.  Math already is a multicultural entity that was refined across cultures and generations.

I don't think it's a zero-sum game. You don't have to toss one method out to learn another. It just adds more depth, plus it's interesting. If this is really being taught as a form of social justice then I'd agree that's retarded. I'm not convinced that's the purpose though.
