?

Mario Bros. Not to be confused with Super Mario Bros.

I played that on the Atari 2600, apparently when I was 6 years old.

Mario was also the playable character in Donkey Kong.

It's likely Mario was created in the 70, ahead of the production and release of Donkey Kong arcade machines.

Okay... so Donkey Kong came out July 9, 1981.

On the most part I think so too. It's gotten to wacky for my taste.

I Ran the WiiU Emulator (CEMU) just so I can play Pikmin 3 though.

As for challenges. I'd argue the most difficult game to speed run, is Mario64.

I would guess 1980 or sooner is when Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario. One doesn't just make a game and release it in a day.

As for Nintendo, the company is over 100 years old.

I'm mostly onboard for it for the games made by other companies and Smash Bros.

Stuff like "No More Heroes" definitely broke the "Nintendo" expectation:

Sexual references and violence everywhere.

As for challenges. I'd argue the most difficult game to speed run, is Mario64.

People've gone next tier on speed running anything with "Mario" in it, but Mario 64 specifically has hit the point of making mods so that they can be even further challenged by it.

The speed runner communities are both inspiring and scary.

The first Nintendo title to break expectations was Killer Instinct. ( Some people today wouldn't believe this franchise even belonged to Nintendo )

Nintendo had a policy of no blood once. When Mortal Combat was released on the SNES, it was the closest to the arcade, except... they took out the blood. There was a bit of an outrage over this, so Nintendo came back with the most violent fighting game of it's time.

This is the Killer Instinct Arcade, in the beginning of this video you can see an announcement for the Ultra64, (which latter changed to the N64.) Needless to say, the N64 couldn't run the arcade version of Killer Instinct, it did run Killer Instinct 2 which was graphically inferior to the first one.

Though this game borrowed game mechanics from Street Fighter II, it also introduced the auto double which made for more violence than anything before it. Thought the combo system is the main feature of this, it still has fatalities and humiliation.

Personally I think 3D rendered character sprites is still a great idea.

With the exception of games on compact discs, Nintendo was the first to introduce everything else. From rumble controllers to analog sticks, to portable consoles. On the business side of things Nintendo is more valuable than Sony which is very impressive.
