For Jim the only accomplishment that counts is Money. This boy literally worships some Jewish demon of money, Mammon. Of course that he is not happy and generally a mess even with his money, demon worshipping and all that does not occur to him. I can only refer to his sociocultural background of growing up in a cave in an osmanic mountain region that these material things are so important to him. He had nothing, felt like a loser, so money is everything to him. Money is success. For someone who grew up with money, money is nothing. Etc. I think that's why people are confused. Different values etc. Jim may not live in a cage anymore and may not eat dirt anymore, but at heart he is still that poor Turkish rat that he doesn't want to be.

Emphasis on "grew up with money". One is growing up with the money of your parents, and another is getting to that money through your own ambition and intelligence. Having wealthy or succesful parents and still not making any big money yourself by the age of 25 is actually worse because it means you are a seriously hopeless loser who cannot use his/her privilege to make something out of it because you are mentally weak, lacking in ambition, intelligence, talent and p much anything to become something.
