This might almost be onto the heart of something, but as semantics I think it's more over a fear of being alone rather than having something he can easily control, as he... can't really control her, he can't. If she wants to do something, truly, he cannot stop her beyond outsmarting her. She will kick on the adrenaline and then it's worried-him versus She-Hulk without a law degree, and when his back is turned she will find ways to try to get what she wants with the aims of manipulating the situation so that he won't rag on her over it.
Similar to Turquie, Delora cannot hold onto foundational context as a resource, so their stories are prone to constant evolution in spite of the present zeal. Purely over discussing what he's made public over this forum anyway, I'd presume it's moreover from him as a kid having to witness his mother leaving his father for another woman. In a sense he's rebuking them first so that they can't reject him, but I suspect if Delora were gone and he was truly alone that his tune might change a bit.
I see it less as needing to be in control of her, and more over having someone who'd never leave him on their own. On some level her dedication to him is something he isn't equipped to process, and when it goes away he flips. It's a drug to him, a very distracting one.
