Race, Emotions, and Socialization
Gender and race were also associated with emotional intelligence (EQ-i). Females reported higher mean interpersonal score while males reported higher intrapersonal score. African-American subjects reported lower interpersonal, intrapersonal scores and lower total EQ-i scores than Caucasians.
The empirical data and research suggest that the dynamics of the socialization process with regards to emotion and their behavioral expression are different for men and women and that the same is true for race. Thus understanding that men and women, and people or color are socialized differently and how they are socialized with respect to emotions can provide insight and meaning into the of behavior people, for more effective interpersonal and intrapersonal interaction.
