Im surprised I never got into this genre until recently. I suppose it was the "punk" part (I hate traditional punk rock) but I think it's a misleading title because most post punk has a very progressive/psychadelic sound that I didn't expect until I dived in. Here's the post punk I've found to be most worthy:
Here is the album that got me into the genre, quite fittingly, it was a random spotify discovery. Apparently this band is very underrated and never found commercial success. It has meaningful lyrics, twin guitar textures, and a good singer. There is good variety as well.
Another underrated band. I just listened to the album for the first time and I liked it so I'm adding it in.
I can't find the youtube videos for a lot of them but here are other albums to check out-
The Sky's Gone Out by Bauhaus
Strange Times by The Chameleons
Pornography by The Cure
both of Joy Division's albums
Head Over Heels by Coctaeu Twins
and more.
I guess post punk split into subgenres like new wave, ethereal wave, gothic rock, darkwave, ect. Definitely check those out.
It seems to be very influential too, especially on indie rock like shoegaze and on alternative rock.
Do you have any post punk suggestions of your own? What do you think of the genre?
