I tend to feel like I'm numb when it's the opposite from it being too much to process at the time. If that's your case as well then you just need time to wrestle with the novelty of the idea (for good or ill).

When my anxiety reaches peak / unable to cope levels my feelings shut down and I become extremely relaxed and loose-lipped like I was given a benzo, saying things I should not and acting very uncaring.
