Why couldn't I? 

You can reject it, but not in terms of valid reasoning.

What makes the ultimate conclusion being emptiness valid? 

Because if you examine, you find that neither self nor phenomena have inherent existence.

What makes existence inherent or not rather than assumed through solipsist filtering? 

We're stuck in a state of not knowing how much we've cobbled versus how much exists as our own storyteller. 

We can conclude that we know we don't know things, but that doesn't conclude that it must be nothing. 

The point is that if something is subject to causes and conditions it means it is compounded and not really inherently existent (through itself), so it can't be ultimate truth. We cannot really say how things exist, we can only say how they do not exist.

emptiness is not nothing in this pilosophy!
