Custom rings are worthless/priceless unless someone more known makes it. The resale's essentially gone if you tailor it towards your own preferences, while someone who's actually succeeded at making their mark on history will have the things they've produced accrue value overtime, especially after their death.

Custom rings might not have a high retail value but they have a higher sentimental value. You're right I guess it's on the person and which they value more
