Does anyone else get annoyed by the overuse of the word sociopath in tv, films and books in recent years when describing almost any bad guy, even though they are not really a sociopath but just an asshole? I feel it creates a false impression and at least where I live a strong negative bias, especially with police and at court.

As a diagnosed psychopath, I've learned it's better to hide my disorder and blend in. I wasn't always so clever however. Believe me, psych wards and asylums are frustrating, terrifying, and emotionally damaging places. My parents made sure I was a highly medicated child. I was a zombie for most of my younger years. I will never let anyone do that to me again.
In clinical work they often refer to a sociopathic spectrum, which is basically the tendency to be less emotively empathetic. Surgeons and psychiatrists often score high on that spectrum. As Dr. Alok Kanojia puts it, he wouldn't be able to do his job effectively if he broke down crying when his patients share traumatic things.
