This was inspired by TPG in our discussions of the nature of thought and its problems in the context temporal succession.
I think therefore I am. This is a predicate made with certainty despite not yielding any under closer observation. One can break the issue of thought of oneself as a justification for being into the problem of succession and the problem of intellectualization. The problem of succession arises from one’s capacity and awareness for thought. Thought is successive and, seemingly, does not occur all at once at least in its articulation. Some predicate such as “I think therefore I am” can only actualize through a string of successive actualizations. Your awareness of this succession and your dependency on it makes the thought “I think therefore I am” necessarily external as its expression is through the process of thought. There is always necessarily a past tense derived from the thought’s dependence of succession. Further awareness of the problem of succession creates the problem of intellectualization. Our awareness of the dictum of necessity and dependence once again leads to the experience of the thought “I think therefore I am” through yet another externality relative to it. One then can intellectualize the thought ad infinitum as they break the thought into categorizations while exploring each object that make up the thought which too then can be considered there own objects. This process of intellectualization leads to further externalities relative to the original succession. The set of successions through intellectualization only objectify thought instead of confirming being. Therefore, the thought “I think therefore I am” as a justification for being only objectifies being and as such creates further uncertainty.
