Dude stockholmed on me and his wife wants my D :point:
Just for the record I didn’t have to buy another ticket, I was barely late and I got a return flight today (am already at home) without paying anything extra. I did miss work today but I called out last night (and I literally never call out for any reason) so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.
I only use discord as a dm plateform to speak to people from here ton the regular, as a result I am not really entwined in the the drama there and never get to witness it.
If yesterday taught me anything it's that it's a very toxic place and the goal is to verbally dominate others. It's like a cod live chat where people are just hostile to one another to show how they are the most dominant but in this case the discord users seem really serious about it given there's this idea of legacy which can't be said for an ephemeral chat in a game lobby. I listened to some user named Volky argue with another user for something like an hour about who is tougher and who could beat who up.
This behavior goes on for hours it seems and so I can only assume that this is how people are spending their days and is how theiy derive their meaning and worth. They have some strange idea that if they can just run a discord server and be its God then by default they've transcended their transcendental condition.
The fact that users can just make new accounts in conjunction with it being a widely used and available platform otherwise grants them an outlet for misplaced feelings elsewhere, then when bored of being there they try to drag the mentality to other platforms.
The content also doesn't have to be as well thought out, which they justify as "it's faster". I can see why the mentality appeals to some people, but I tend to judge them for it.
The content never seems well thought out and that seems to what really makes up the irony. You have individuals spamming some auto-response "Look how X is acting like Y to get me attention" or "Look how X is acting like Y to act like they are not triggered", or "Look how X is responding, everyone can't help but orbit me" and then somehow construed that to being a machiavellian master whom is a God and King. It shows a complete lack of awareness given subverting and taking over a political dynasty made up of highly educated individuals is not really the same a bullying a mentally ill person or teenager.
Do we have an entire generation of people who look like adults but generally have the minds of 7th graders? I really hope not, I am banking on it's just the nature of the plateform and doesn't speak of society as a whole. Then again I've observed philosophy twitter and phd students at harvard and yale are not acting all that differently.
If anything how easily you're able to spend $400 at a moment's notice is itself a flex.
Between the bank and Med, chapo is set.

I don't think it's generational. This is how people always were. I think if anything, having a spotlight on it with the freedom of communication we have now, may eventually push us to develop past this to some degree.

I like that and I think I will chose to believe it, it does make sense.
If I was only exposed to serious and rational actors my whole life, I'd have reason to believe all people are like that while in actuality hardly anyone is.
Humanity does seem to becoming more aware of itself which may be justification for our growing pains. Hopefully they are not too painful, some people fear AI becoming Self-Aware despite it making more sense that we should be more worried about humanity becoming Self-Aware.

*Not all servers-
It's really just the mbtimeme and pd servers that are like this. There are some pretty comfy and political servers that don't at all act like this.
