Seems like a bonding mechanism we evolved to protect offspring.

It's been going all sorts of conceptual directions since the biological imperative's necessity disappeared yet it's urges remained.

I'd say the word "love" is a vague shortcut phrase.

I see what you're saying here, and it's true that the word love is not so descriptive.

They way that I see it is as a pair-bonding mechanism we have built-in. Specifically the brain being flooded with phenylethylamine for around 3 years, which induces strong infatuation. Thinking in terms of what primates do, that seems a non-coincidental time frame for building trust, having an offspring, and seeing that it is born before the spark fades. That's what we call "the honeymoon phase," more or less. Then after the PEA wears off, things seem more a matter of conscious choice and communication.

Looks like TPG is Xena's next target after her own son, she's been following him around in threads and going at him non stop lol.

Thinking more about this, it's also true that people can love their pets or their siblings, etc. That seems to involve something more along the lines of forming social groups, which runs off a different mechanism (serotonin, I think). But still something I would see as a result of our design. Other animals do the same, etc.

I agree with this in general, I am ignorant to brain function and its chemical function but I accept the premise as a starting point given it's reasonable.

Is there any explanations for this feeling of 'love' lasting much longer than 3 years for some people/couples?

I assume that they actually enjoy being around each other after that point, and desire to share life together. The initial thrill tapers down...the same chemical behind it is one of the ones in chocolate, which is almost certainly why it's associated with love. Then I think it's about bonding without that bonus that makes people blind. Or, you can always just keep buying them chocolates. :)

Then you have broken people like Jimmy who diddle kids and go around telling everybody that the one who called the cops on their disgusting shit are the ones who are doing w/e.

The dissonance and the lies.

Ppl like that think "I hate you and you disgust me and I would impale you with barbecue tools if I ever meet you in person"

Ppl lik Jimmy think a statement like ^^ that = love.

smh what deluded turd for brains losers frequent this place.

I wonder if other things I consider slimy and vile feel love?

Do earthworms love?  :D

What about scorpions?

Or do they just talk shit to unsuspecting froggies about the 'nature' of things?
