The AMD RX 6000s series is looking pretty strong. The Ryzen 5th gen CPUs and 500 series motherboards will be able directly address the GPU, bypassing the typical PCIe base express register interface. AMD seems to have come along really well with graphics architecture, their CPUs integrated graphics have been killing Intel's. The advances have been sick with both companies, I might actually have to start making some money.
I seen someone do something like this, but in a crystal lattice:
Can't seem to find it again. :|
Nvidia still has a monopoly on various graphical software that only runs on their hardware, though the Radeon cards have been finding more support over the years.
Nvidia also is more popular so builders will want their Nvidia logos in their builds.
Another thing about this industry, most things are based on single GPU performance which is shady. While SLI and Crossfire are still an option, hardly anyone is putting out the coding for it to run.
My 5 year old GPU can still hack it, but I'd rather buy a 2nd one used and let it rip, but that's not happening.
Oh yeah, and the RX 6000 will be priced at $999 USD and available early December. And none of you will ever have it lol.
I more admire the technology in my state of low-income, seeing what it could do. Not that I do anything that would need an RX 6000 anyways. But the nice thing is that prices go down over time. I have high-end tech from 2011, and it does everything I need.
There's actually quite bit of cool stuff you can do with older parts, i.e. using old Xeon server-grade chips with matching motherboards, and adding in a good GPU.
You can buy a used Dual Xeon Motherboard, and buy the Xeon chips used for cheap.
Then you'll have a server grade workstation with upgradable DDR3 RAM slots up to 256GB of RAM.
It also includes multiple PCI-E slots which you can use to upgrade the GPU. Or add new things like Bluetooth or M.2 drives what have you.
Dual Motherboard is overkill for a gaming rig, but you'll be future proof probably for 20+ to life.
Those builds can come in the form of a tower and they are quite heavy.
If you go with a single older Xeon you'll run into trouble when you upgrade in half a decade.
