I know a guy who goes once a week, or once every two weeks if he's too busy. but he also is jacked af, gets all his clothing tailored and owns a big security company. if it makes you feel confident then that's cool, I put quite a bit of effort into my own apperance or I won't feel on top of my game and it affects my mood and performance in all areas. but I'm always suspicious when people go to so much effort, is it just vanity? just tryin to get laid bruh? seems like a waste of money to me, I've cut my own hair for a long ass time and I've cut guy's hair too, get electric clippers with different length attachments and yt some tutorials, quite simple depending on your style (and I know your style) save yourself the money and learn a new skill

Once a week is way too often. I'd like to get tailored clothes at some point as well though, seems super comfortable. I don't feel the need to be jacked
There's probably some vanity involved but personal aesthetics can be a learning process in which it forces me to judge myself in a way that is not innate, and with that I get to know myself better. Its probably wise to balance things of course

I like going to the barber though, the idea of being frugal or worrying about money makes me uncomfortable and on edge

I agree it's too often hmmm except reflecting, in the context that he often worked security shifts himself at night venues often, I'd say that having excess hair or not looking sharp and threating could be big down sides.
you like your barber from memory so that's nice, and you don't go too often and it's not too expensive. but why does the idea make you uncomfortable and on edge? seems to be a common trope in the west that money is a touchy subject, and don't get me wrong I'm no exception, but I havent deep dived into the psychology of that. perhaps for you in part it's a mindset inherited; from humble beginnings to hard working, self made comfort. idk. frugality is logical to me, but it is nice to have nice things too and be able to not worry about money. and I would like to not feel guilty when I spend money on things just like salmon and avocado, maybe I inherited some probably not ideal mindset too.
