I went in expecting a slug fest, with Biden being unable to articulate well. It looks like Trump was expecting that as well and tried to force it aggressively. Biden remained more articulate than I thought he would, I think he had adrenochrome right before the debate. Overall, it was a shit show that could barely be moderated.

I got almost nothing in terms of criticisms of policies. Both sides sling numbers at each other, who even knows what is credible? My position is that people should do their own research on party positions if they're going to vote, but most won't do that. Either it's a matter of time, interest, partisanship, or simply not knowing how to go about doing their own research. And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, a lot of people are already locked in their side going into this. So we've already reached a point of demagoguery.

The only thing I gained from the debate was a few hits of dopamine, and that Biden considers himself the party line. This is a a contrast from what spotlight figures like AOC have been claiming when they say they can push him to more progressive positions.

which debate

 Perhaps all of them.

Imho debates are a sports for the smart but bored bunch. It can be a fun way to pass the time, but it's quite rare that something useful comes out of it besides entertainment.

I think the clash is where the room for new ideas can be born without just being a wishy washy compromise. It's a jumping point for inspiration and otherwise a way to keep up your mental tenacity.

A debate has the room for a "I never thought about that" moment, if not full blown satori.

However, at least in my experience, I find that, post-debate, people are ooften wrapped even closer around the ideas they held before the debate -- even if said ideas are shown to be fallacious.

You need to debate more devil's advocates or otherwise creative types then instead of just earnest dullards. Their capacity for imagination is what gives it room to become something more, while mere repetition of rhetoric is just going to reinforce itself.

Earnest people do make good debate partners both for the practice and the room to learn their methods. They're basically preaching the very gospel you could use to debate with someone else as a way of gathering data.

OMFG! It was a chaotic shit show and it was frustrating to watch. The moderator was schooling trump like a toddler. <cringe> And the overt aggression by trump to bully and silence Biden was annoying af. That said, it likely solidified each's base even more. Biden appealed to moderates and trump stayed loyal to his fanatics. But sadly there were blatant lies that couldn't be fact checked in real time. Like trump claimed the Sheriff in Portland called to give him his support and the Sheriff tweeted immediately that it was a lie.

Apparently ‘Move to Canada’ searches exploded during the debate. lol

I've had that moment a few times.

That's fair. Although it's possible that I'm the problem. I wouldn't know. I suppose that playing the devil's advocate could be useful.

I'm a very slow learner which is usually the problem.

Pence nailed it.

As for the first debate/argument, there was no real winner it was so ugly, though I'd say Biden took a lot of damage.

The green deal in particular. Demolish 4,000,000 buildings and rebuild new ones = way too expensive.
